Four Lazy Weeknight Haitian Dinners to Try

If you are like most people, some nights, you just don’t feel like cooking a big Haitian meal. BTW How come Haitians like to cook in such large portions?🤔(That’s a topic for another post) That’s okay, we got you! You can still make something delicious, fast, and full of flavor.

These Haitian dinners are easy, tasty, and don’t take all night.

We use simple ingredients, plus Epis seasoning and our own Haitian spice blend to bring the flavor.

What is Epis Seasoning?

Epis (say “eh-pees”) is a special mix of herbs, onions, garlic, peppers, and more.

It’s what makes Haitian food smell and taste so good. You can use Epis in almost every meal, just keep a jar in the fridge and you’re halfway to dinner.

Watch this video if you want to learn how to make Epis:

Lazy Dinner #1: Fried Plantains and Eggs

This one is fast and fun.

Just slice and fry some green plantains (bannann peze), and scramble eggs with a spoon of Epis. You can even sprinkle a little Haitian spice blend for extra kick.

Lazy Dinner #2: Diri ak Pwa (Rice and Beans)

Cook some rice. Warm up a can of red beans.

Add a spoon of Epis, a little oil, and some Haitian spices. Mix together and boom, just like that  dinner is ready.

Bonus: Add a fried egg on top if you want more.

Lazy Dinner #3: Tuna with Epis

Open a can of tuna, mix in a spoon of Epis, and a dash of mustard (optional) and warm it up in a pan.

Serve with crackers or hard dough bread. It’s quick, salty, and full of flavor.

You can also eat it with some left over rice.

Lazy Dinner #4: Leftover Legim Remix

Did you make legim earlier this week?

Just reheat it and serve with bread or rice. If it’s thick, you can even use it as a Haitian legim dip.

It always tastes better the next day, trust us!
